Royal Knight

Character

Name: Royal Knight

Class: Royal Knight, Holy Paladin

Forumite Name: RoyalKnight (royalknight)

Character Code: RK

Physical Description

Eyes: Blue. Hard and serious. Suggestive of an intelligent, suspicious mind that has seen many, many things, good and bad, during his travels.

Age: Upper 20s.

Hair: Practically like Bedivere's. Same color, too. The style is the same because I would be someone serving under Saber. Long enough to playfully blow in the wind.

Gender: Male.

Skin: Fair.

Height: About five foot, six inches. (167 cm)

Build: Medium / normal. You are unable to judge his combat abilities by his build. You can't really tell anyway because...

Clothes: Decked out in fantasy medievel-ish armor, except for his head. Silver / mythril color. Billowing cape consisting of royal blue with silver trim. Scabard at left side, similar in design to Caliburn's, except that it holds RK's sword, Caladbolg (fake, semi-mass-produced replica).

Attitude and Personality

RK is a very devoted and very serious-minded individual, and somewhat old-fashioned. Honor, nobility of purpose, and working tireless towards the good of mankind are things he holds close to himself. He is naturally suspicious of many things, but opens up to the few people he trusts. Otherwise, he's a very private individual and tries not to say much about himself or his past. Generally quiet, he will not say what is on his mind until he can find a good way to put it diplomatically and without misunderstanding. This, inevitably, makes him somewhat prone to being long-winded and dry.

He's quite religious and serves under the deity of Saber. As a knight, he upholds the ideals of chivalry and will place himself in a disadvantageous position to hold fast to those ideals. Protecting the weak from evil is his deepest commitment, one that he'll gladly accept death to ensure. Purity of one's self is also a high priority, and while he won't condemn a person for having done evil, he'll vigorously root out any corruption should it manifest itself in a tangible and threatening fashion. As a consequence, he's also an ardent seeker of truth, which caused him to go forth on his quest.

One interesting facet of his personality relates to his incredibly bad luck. He has absolutely zero ability to avoid his fate, which causes him to be rather apathetic to his own safety and security. He is fortunate to have incredibly good stamina and spirit, which has saved him from many dire situations, but he knows that it's only a matter of time before that fails him. Instead of fighting against it, though, he merely accepts the fact and accepts defeat or victory as inevitable in his own personal life. As a consequence, if he sees someone else with bad luck, as well, he'll act to help carry that person forward, sympathizing with them.

He also has a tendency to randomly lose stuff, especially important things, so he rarely carries many things on him.

A student of the Ancient Language, RK will often refer to certain things by their Ancient Language equivalent, such as saying majutsu, koyuu kekkai, and maryoku kairo. Randomly speaks and reads the Ancient Language, as well, but not very well.

Combat

Strengths, Roles

Strengths: Melee, ManaTechs, Tanking Ability, High Spirit

Weaknesses: Low MP pool, low speed, horrid luck, limited casting ability, rigid battle strategy.

In-depth Description: RK's greatest strength is his ability to receive or deflect damage, whether it be melee or magic. He dons heavy enchanted plate armor to protect him from physical attacks as well as lessen the effects of spells. He is particularly talented at using a Mana Shield and can conjure it instantly, which he uses to protect himself or allies from attacks. Additionally, his swordplay is well practiced, however, and can deflect enemy attacks completely. By channeling mana through his blade, he can even deflect minor sorceries. His high spirit and endurace keeps him going in combat.

Primarily a melee-class, he fights using superior swordplay, using his control of mana and od to supplement his abilities through ManaTechs. His blade, though only a replica of the famous Caladbolg, is a sturdy weapon with similar abilities to the original legendary sword. The blade helps him draw in and focus mana for his abilities, allowing him to conserve his supply of od. Having followed the way of the paladin, he has a large variety of spells to heal himself or allies in a pinch, or to provide temporary enchantment of weapons.

Wearing heavy armor comes at a price, however. His agility in combat is quite low, and often loses initiative in combat. He strikes hard when he attacks, but he doesn't strike very often. Bad luck plagues him, making him susceptible to a variety of techniques, spells, and situations. His low personal supply of od is a burden and a task for him to manage, limiting his casting abilities, particularly his support abilities. He must be careful not to overextend his abilities when using ManaTechs, or waste it all on his limited amount of support spells. Ultimately, he is left to soak in damage while dealing damage himself; he can't vary his battle strategy without leaving a serious impact on overall performance.

Equipment

Primary Weapon: Enchanted Longsword Caladbolg (Fake Replica)

Description: A moderately ornate, standard double-edged sword, meant to be wielded in one hand, though closer to being the traditional "hand-and-a-half" typical of longswords. The blade itself is of a brilliant steel-colored, but has a dull white glow to it. Its size is similar to Caliburn. The hilt is thin, again like Caliburn, but follows a decoration pattern similar to the Excalibur. It curves upward, like most hilts, instead of Caladbolg II's curving downward. Hilt is a dull silver and blue color, and the handle is all blue with a silver cap. These swords are semi-mass-produced, so while distinctive and rare to see, it's not a unique weapon.

The scabbard is very similar to Caliburn's, but with silver gilding instead of gold, and less ornate (particularly, no large decoration). There is a noticeably large cross motif on it.

Ultimate Weapon: Legendary Knight Sword Caladbolg (Artifact)

Description: Similar to the fake version, but with notable differences. The blade is somewhat longer and and as thick as Excalibur. It also glows white at all times, giving a it a sort of aura effect around it. The hilt is thickened but has runes etched into it in blue lining. A blue diamond-like jewel adorns the center. The hilt is a mix of blue and silver, with more runes etched around it.

Scabbard is the exact same.

This is not the actual Caladbolg of time and legend, but a creation of the world that has adopted the same properties of the original sword.

Armor: Enchanted Full Plate

Description: Similar in style to Gilgamesh's armor. White with blue etchings and decorations.

Abilities

Standard Attacks

Normal Hit: Royal Knight runs up to an enemy and slashes him diagonally, from the top-right to the bottom left.

Critical Hit: Royal Knight jump dashes towards an enemy and slashes them from head to toe, using a two-handed grip.

Skills

Royal Knight's Skillbook

Royal Knight's Skill Encyclopedia

Overview: Royal Knight's focuses much of his abilities in Techniques and ManaTechs. The vast majority are geared to offensive combat, though he has a few staple defensive techniques that he uses for guarding. The spells he knows are almost all defensive in nature and are used to protect his allies from damage or grant them brief high-powered buffs.

His 100% adrenaline attacks are very powerful but leave Royal Knight in a weakened state after a single use, so it is best to use them to finish off opponents. Most of the energy he pours into them is not to attack his opponents, per se, but rather to hold back the barely controllable power of his weapon.

Story

Background

RK was born and raised in the Fourth Realm. He held an unrivaled nobleness of spirit and strove for true righteousness, leading him to join the Order of Saber Knights as one of their warrior knights. He found himself particularly drawn to the deity of Saber, and swore his life to defend her ideals.

The young paladin learned of the greatest defender of the Temple, the legendary Scholar-Warrior-Monk named Ryuusoul. RK sought tutelage and inspiration from this living legend, but Ryuusoul was far superior to RK in every respect; RK was too inexperienced for one such as Ryuusoul. Worse, Ryuusoul left on a personal journey shortly thereafter, leaving RK with a sense of incompleteness and loss.

RK himself left on his own journey for enlightenment, knowledge, and strength. He spent much of his time researching in the Second Realm, laboriously reading through texts and attempting to decipher the ancient glyphs directly. He practiced his swordsmanship, offered aid to those who needed it, and defeating evil whenever he discovered it. His devotion to Saber, his respect for Evo, and his appreciation of the founding sages and other important figures grew tremendously during this period, knowing full well that he stood on the shoulders of giants.

Returning to the Order of Saber Knights, he was assigned to the Sixth Realm to help in the eternal battle to keep chaos from creeping into the Inner Realms. After spending some time there, he met the Mad Sage and personally offered his services to the Mad Sage, RK seeked deeper knowledge from the great master and hoped to aid him in his administration. The twisted wizard became a sort of mentor for the paladin, and RK did his best to learn as well as uphold his duty as a paladin under Saber. He fought first-hand against the chaos that threatened the Sixth and Seventh Realms, putting his templar training to good use.

New enemies began appearing, and RK was experiencing much more difficult battles. He saw less and less of the Mad Sage, who became increasingly confused, distracted, and withdrawn. As he fought more against these mysterious creatures, his sword, an imitation of the mythical artifact "Caladbolg," began resonating with these monsters. He was bewildered by this phenomenon, since his weapon was one of destruction and consumption. RK rushed to his teacher, the Mad Sage, for answers.

But the chambers were empty and in disarray. The Mad Sage was missing. RK stood there in disbelief. He searched far and wide throughout the Outer Realms, and no one knew what had happened to the Sage. Worse, rumors floated about of a new power rising from within the Realms, one of madness and chaos. RK returned to his post, but the forces of chaos grew ever stronger and coordinated, launching a ferocious assault against the realm defenders. The enemy was barely pushed back, but few soldiers remained to savor that brief victory, and RK had watched every single one of his comrades die that day. The situation looked grim; this was a two-front war, and RK knew that it wouldn't be long before the peaceful inner realms were attacked. The Mad Sage had abandoned them, and RK had an unshakeably dreadful feeling that it was more than just that.

Swearing to protect order, to protect the world, to discover the truth of things, RK begrudgingly but willingly abandoned his post to find out what happened to his former master and destroy the evil that plagued the world from both inside and out. This was his duty as a paladin, as a knight, as a devout follower of Saber.

Story-Relation

Introduction to the Party

Proposed Idea: While researching into the Mad Sage, the invading chaos, and the disappearance of Evo, RK takes notice of BL-tan and the party. Perhaps they were causing mayhem, or were fugitives. In any case, their demeanor catches his attention. He confronts them and finds out they are connected with the Mad Sage, both parties misunderstand each other's purpose, and a battle erupts. RK will be much higher-leveled and acts like a boss enemy towards the party. After his defeat, the party (read: BL-tan with knife) interrogates him and finds out that he's been trying to find out about the Mad Sage and stop him, as well. Eventually, RK figures that he can trust the party and shares what information he has. He may or may not join the party for a brief periods of time, depending on how the story unfolds. But after that event is finished, he'll take off to resume his own journey.

You will only be able recruit RK permanantly in the late game. He will have found out the truth (or at least, most of it) about the Mad Sage. He challenged him and was soundly defeated by his former master. He can either seek out the party voluntarily for help, or the party runs across him in some hellhole, badly wounded and unable to stand.

Plot-related Events

Connection with Ryuusoul

While Ryuusoul's character isn't exactly thought up so much, it was thought that he'd be a wandering martial arts master, sworn to both Arcueid as well as Saber. Ryuusoul is a person that preempts me (devotion to Saber, thinking along similar lines in the chat but getting to them first, other stuff), so it was thought that it would be funny if, whenever I encounter him, he'll take words out of my mouth or do things before I do them, etc, as a running gag and inside joke with him. Also, he has enough combat abilities to kick my ass at any time, meaning he will always be more powerful than me. It would be a sort of rivalry between us. Or really, I would see it as a rivalry and a competition. He will see it at as a harmless annoyance.

Akashic Journal

RK's work on the Index (say... the Akashic Index... lol) and my relentless pursuit of TYPE-MOON lore might be translated to my character trying to get to the bottom of the overarching problem, and writing about them in some journal. Maybe you'll find journal pages randomly lying around in various places.
